Two-storey townhouse in Pechery was purchased in 2016. For six months of repair, the owners completely changed the layout of the developer, moved the stairs and built on the third floor. Life around talks with the hostess and designer Anna Tolmacheva and tells how to visually increase the height of the ceilings, why the interior needs bright accents and how the townhouse differs from the house.
Anna's family moved to a fully finished house with furniture, work on which lasted six months. According to the documents at the time the project was completed, the total area of the townhouse was 86 square meters. The owners did not think long and decided not to miss the opportunity to build another floor, turning 86 square meters into 120.
The townhouse had a convenient square layout, but the location of the stairs still had to be changed. It is believed that a staircase with rotary steps is an unsafe story, but the owners decided in their favor and abandoned the sites.
Material - beech with a dark coating. Before deciding on the color, the structure had to be repainted and repainted several times so that it was not too slippery. Dark color looks the most advantageous, but it is an indicator for dust. Anya admits that absolutely any dirt is visible on it.
Then followed the redevelopment of the first floor. In theory, the kitchen was supposed to be further from the window, but the owners reasoned that it would be more pleasant to look outside, sitting at the dining table. In addition, it turned out that in the summer it is very convenient to open the windows and thereby combine the space of the house and the kitchen.
Anna made almost all the furniture to order from her friends masters. The yellow cabinet is the mistress's long-standing dream. I wanted to go home and immediately rejoice at something. Bright accents in the interior should be, but not attract too much attention. For example, in the living room, gray walls are diluted with yellow rosettes. The color of the walls in the corridor on the second floor is also an accent, it is not annoying, but enlivens the space.
Because of the add-on on the third floor, the ceilings on the second floor had to be significantly lowered, where they were 2.3 meters, and not 2.7, as they should have been. To get rid of the feeling of crowding, the ceiling was painted in the color of the walls.
The countertop, apron, table and window sill in the kitchen are made of natural ash. It is believed that a tree is a whimsical material, you never know how it will behave, but, according to the experience of the hostess, you can say the opposite: no matter what happens (a stuck knife during cooking), scratches or cracks can be easily fixed by treating the surface with oil or wax .
Despite the fact that Anna was a designer, she didn’t do a full-fledged project for her home, limited herself to only sketches of some rooms and technical schemes. So in the house there was a charging station for all devices. If you carry chargers and wires throughout the house, then after a couple of days you will not find them. For large areas, you just need a place where everything will be charged. Anya also provided storage facilities for household items. On the ground floor there is a small workshop room with a folding table and paints (Anna paints, the paintings in the house are her works), and on the second floor there is a laundry room.
The bed in the nursery was made in a niche - this does not eat up the footage of the room and creates comfort. At the request of the daughter, they chose a calm gray-blue gamma. A bright accent here is the contrasting ceiling.
On the third floor they organized a bedroom and a dressing room. There was a funny story with the layout of the bed. As planned, she was supposed to stand on the side where the ceiling is lower, but Ani’s husband was very worried that he would beat his forehead against him. The bed was rearranged, but could not live for so long. When you open your eyes, there is a height above you, and a low point ahead - a clear feeling appears that you are in a hole. As a result, they returned to the original version.
Townhouses are an intermediate state between an apartment and a house. At a certain moment, there is little space in the apartment for a large family, and a house is a completely different scale and difficulty in maintenance.
In the village where Anna lives with her family, a very pleasant microclimate: everyone knows each other, arrange holidays and go on a visit. There is even a general chat so that parents can quickly look for children who run away to visit their neighbors all the time.
