How it works

Irkutsk citizens are offered to heat houses with bitcoins

Irkutsk Oblast is the territory with the lowest electricity cost in the world: we pay less than a ruble per kilowatt hour. It is not surprising that the future of the region is already associated with mining: electricity is the main resource necessary for cryptocurrency mining. In the future, they plan to turn entire cities into mining farms. And in the near future, residents of the region are offered, if not mine themselves, then at least take advantage, so to speak, of side bonuses - for example, to heat houses with the heat generated by mining processors.

The idea of a crypto boiler - a processor to which pipes with a coolant are connected - is not new. The Irkutsk citizens went further and came up with a crypto home: a light, mobile modular housing built according to Scandinavian technology using environmentally friendly sandwich panels and heated by crypto boilers.

Entrepreneurs Ilya Frolov, the author of the idea of the crypto home, and Dmitry Tolmachev, the owner of the furniture company, on the basis of which mobile homes of a new format are assembled, told Life around how to heat housing for free and make money on it. Spoiler: a swimming pool is required to start the process.

The modular mobile homes that Dmitry Tolmachev, an entrepreneur, has been building on his base for more than a year, are, in fact, simply understandable packaging for the idea of a crypto home. There is a ready-made building in which the crypto-boiler is located, the result of which can be estimated: it is really warm. In fact, such equipment can be installed anywhere, says Ilya Frolov. Although Dmitry seems to like the idea of not warming the finished private sector, but building a new one, selling crypto boilers along with houses of his own production.

The boiler itself looks like a regular system unit of a pentium, to which silicone tubes with a pink fluid are brought. And which, unlike stationary computers, is not noisy: it does not require cooling with the help of fans.

“We remove the heat carrier with a temperature of about 50-60 degrees, this is more than enough for heating, and even for a lot of underfloor heating it is necessary to regulate the gearboxes. So this is comparable to the heat transfer of conventional boilers,” says Ilya.

Theoretically, according to this scheme, a whole city can be heated. For example, Baikalsk, where the old coal-fired thermal power plant needs to be replaced, and the construction of a gas or electric one will cost too much, both at a one-time cost and the cost of heat energy. And you can completely make the city a big mining farm, major Russian investors are seriously considering this idea and voicing their plans in the media.

Ilya Frolov

"The physics of the process: kilowatts come here, the processor generates heat, and in fact, kilowatts per kilowatt and comes out. But it also creates added value in the form of cryptocurrency. Of course, it is more profitable to heat in this way!" Ilya Frolov is sure. "One kilowatt - of course we won’t go. There are ten free - yes, we are interested."

According to the calculations of entrepreneurs, an average household that is ready to allocate about 10 kW of electricity for mining, in addition to free heating, can receive about 25-30 thousand rubles a month. But if you don’t want to delve into the peculiarities of cryptocurrency mining, you can just place the equipment in yourself and warm yourself, sending the owners of the processors electricity bills spent on receiving bitcoins and the associated heat production.

Dmitry Tolmachev

However, there is a nuance. "The main problem here is not how to warm up, but how to cool. Heat must be removed all year round, and in summer too. Therefore, it is very desirable that the house has a pool that will be heated," Dmitry Tolmachev warns.

Now the project is at the testing stage. "We do not enter the market with crypto-houses, we are committed to watching how it works," businessmen emphasize in response to a proposal by Life around correspondents to import equipment right tomorrow. According to them, there are no statistics on the reliability of Asic mining chips, which are used in crypto boilers, and which, by the way, are considered cryptographic equipment, the legitimacy of the use of which may need to be proved. “A country of prohibitions,” Dmitry commented capaciously. "In fact, this is a computer. How many computers are installed in the country, let's go check everything? But there is mining on video cards, I plan to try to build such a boiler," Ilya continues.

Until 2020, Tolmachev and Frolov intend to make two thousand houses, hoping that it will be a crypto house. Their total mining capacity will be about 20 MW. And this is 80 thousand square meters of housing.

While working a couple of "prototypes" that show everyone. By the new year, entrepreneurs plan to organize a large-scale showroom - put several crypto houses in Nikolov Posad and rent them out to those who want to feel the full strength of the heat of the cryptocurrency.

“So that a person can take the keys, go away, live there, understand whether he will like it or not,” Dmitry explains. “But when you buy a car, you have to drive, drive. That's the same here. Without any fraud.”

New Location: Wood Wood Multi-Brand

For those who hear the name Wood Wood for the first time, it’s easiest to explain the meaning of the store by association with local examples: a little “KM20”, a little Fott, a little relatively high-quality and expensive mass market like All Saints, a little “Republic” with its pretty trinkets and endless albums of art, and all this is twice multiplied by Scandinavian minimalism and love for everything that is everyday and neat.
